News, Sports

Newfoundland and Labrador’s Liam Hickey and Team Canada is one step closer to the podium at the 2026 Paralympic Games in Italy. This afternoon, Canada hopes to punch their ticket to the gold medal game.

Canada’s paralympic hockey team finished a perfect preliminary round with a 4-1 victory over Czechia – with Hickey picking up a goal and assist in that game – his eighth point of the tournament. It now sets the stage for a semifinal matchup against China this afternoon.

This is Hickey’s fourth appearance in the Paralympics. A multi-sport athlete, he made his debut in wheelchair basketball at Rio 2016 before switching to para ice hockey for the 2018 and 2022 Games – winning back-to-back silver medals.
He now has his sights set on gold in italy.
