Temporary housing assistance for Conception Bay North residents extended to end of September

The province continues its support of people in Conception Bay North who experienced loss during last summer’s wildfires. The Temporary Housing Assistance Program has been extended to Sept. 30, With this extension, eligible families who lost their homes will continue to receive financial support for temporary housing.

Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is conducting an analysis of the 47 households who are currently receiving support through the program. NLHC will work directly with these households to help identify what long-term supports may be needed.

Members of the Cabinet Committee on Conception Bay North Response and Recovery – which includes the Minister of Finance, Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Minister of Forestry, Agriculture and Lands and the Minister of Social Supports and Well-Being and Housing – continue to engage with the local MHA, residents, local leaders and emergency partners to ensure its response is informed by local perspectives.

“The families of Conception Bay North have a long road ahead, but they will not walk it alone,” says Joedy Wall, Minister of Social Supports and Well-Being and Minister of Housing. “As we continue to work with the impacted communities on recovery efforts, we know that the Temporary Housing Assistance program provides much-needed stability during a stressful time.”
