Impaired driver arrested by Clarenville RCMP

Justice, News

Clarenville RCMP arrested a 71-year-old man Saturday night, after responding to a report of a suspected impaired driver. Shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 21, police received a call from a concerned citizen who reported a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. Police located the described vehicle in the Clearview Drive area and initiated a traffic stop.

Officers noted signs of impairment, and the driver — a 71-year-old Plate Cove East man — failed a roadside breath test. Police also learned that the man was operating with a suspended driver’s licence. He was arrested and transported to the detachment, where he provided additional breath samples that were more than twice the legal limit.

The man was charged with impaired operation, impaired operation over 80%mg and driving while disqualified. He was released from custody and will appear in provincial court in April 2026. In addition, his vehicle was impounded and he was issued a 90-day licence suspension.
