Stranded snowmobiler located safely by Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP and Exploits GSAR

Justice, News

A 66-year-old man was located safely by Exploits Ground Search and Rescue on Saturday night after a distress call from the backcountry near Mount Peyton Summit.

Around 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 21, police received a call about a snowmobiler that was stuck in a wooded area near Mount Peyton Summit. The snowmobiler, a 66-year-old man, had contacted family to report his location, and explained that he was not injured but was not able to move his machine, and did not have food or water supplies.

Officers were able to contact the man and obtain his GPS coordinates. Police engaged Exploits Ground Search and Rescue to assist with the recovery, and several volunteers traveled to the area by snowmobile to locate the man safely and return him to Bishop’s Falls.

RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador thanks the dedicated volunteers of Exploits Ground Search and Rescue for their successful recovery, and for their ongoing commitment to the safety and wellbeing of our communities.
