Canadians urged not to travel to Mexico following weekend of violence

The federal government ordered Canadians in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to shelter in place Sunday due to violence erupting in the region.

Many Canadian tourists were watching Canada’s gold medal hockey game Sunday before some travellers started getting alerts from their resorts, telling them to shelter in place. Many people who were set to fly out were stranded as the airport shut down.

Today, uncertainty continues as local and foreign governments warn citizens to stay inside after widespread violence erupted following the army’s killing of the powerful leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
