Disgraced former prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor released from police custody
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was released from police custody this morning after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Formerly known as Prince Andrew, he was released under investigation, police said, meaning he has neither been charged nor exonerated.
Mountbatten-Windsor, who turned 66 on the day of his arrest, has been facing allegations due to his relationship with Epstein for over a decade.
“Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,” Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said in a statement Thursday. “We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.”
His mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, forced him to give up royal duties in 2019 after a confronting BBC interview that focused on his ties to Epstein.
Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges in 2019. He took his own life in jail while awaiting trial.
