Clarenville RCMP seize vehicle from suspended driver after collision
A 50-year-old Petley man is without his vehicle after Clarenville RCMP responded to a collision on Wednesday and discovered his driver’s licence was suspended.
Just before 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 18, police were dispatched to the scene of a collision in the area of Memorial Drive. Witnesses reported that a passenger vehicle had made contact with another car on the road, causing damage and that the driver did not immediately stop after the collision.
Police located the driver responsible for the collision, who had eventually pulled over to exchange information with the owner of the other car. Officers conducted a traffic stop and determined that he was operating his vehicle with a suspended license. The driver claimed that he was initially unaware of the collision due to the volume of his car stereo.
He was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act for driving while suspended, and his vehicle was seized and impounded. He was also cautioned by officers for initially failing to remain at the scene of the collision.
