Mitch Marner scores clutch goal in Canadian win at Winter Olympics
Canada’s hopes for Olympic gold in men’s hockey remains alive, but it took some last-minute heroics for the defending champions. Mitch Marner was the overtime hero, scoring just over a minute into the extra frame to give Canada a dramatic 4-3 win over Czechia in the Olympic quarterfinal.
The Canadians actually trailed in the third period, but Montreal Canadiens forward Nick Suzuki evened the game at 3-3 with about five minutes left – setting the stage for overtime.
Macklin Celebrini and Nathan Mackinnon also scored for Canada. With the win, Canada now improves to 4-0 at the Olympics, and punch their ticket to the semifinals tomorrow.
However, it’s not all good news for Canada, as captain Sidney Crosby suffered an injury in the opening period and did not return.
