Police seeking public’s assistance in animal harm investigation

Justice, News

Bay St. George RCMP is asking anyone with information to come forward after receiving a report of an abandoned cat with an apparent gunshot wound. The cat is currently receiving care and treatment for its injuries in St. John’s.

On Monday, police in Stephenville received a call from an animal rescue organization reporting that an orange cat was placed in their care after it was dropped off at a veterinarian’s office and received preliminary treatment for what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The cat did not have a collar or other identification.

The individual who turned over the animal did not provide their information, but did report that the cat was found in the West Bay area.

The cat is alive and receiving further veterinary care in St. John’s.

Police are urging the owner of the cat, the individual who brought the animal for care and anyone with information about this incident to contact Bay St. George RCMP at 709-643-2118.
