Rogues lose to defending champion Sudbury Five

ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — The Newfoundland Rogues lost 106-96 to the Sudbury Five on Friday night at Mary Brown’s Centre. Despite a close effort from the home side, the defending Basketball Super League champs were too much for the Rogues, who lost their third straight game to start the season.


The Five led by 23 at halftime, stunning fans at Mary Brown’s Centre. The Rogues came back strong to win the third quarter 36-20 before coming up just 10 points short in the end.


Dedric Boyd led the Rogues with 29 points. Charlie Marquardt and Alex Kotov were the top scorers for Sudbury.


The Rogues will have to bounce back quickly as they face the Five again at home on Saturday. The game starts at 7 p.m.
