The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library is inviting the community to give the gift of music
Do you have a trumpet in the basement or maybe a violin collecting dust in a closet?
On Sunday, March 8, The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library invites community members to their Used Instrument Drive, a special event to collect gently used musical instruments for students who need them most.
The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the main lobby of Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s, with free parking provided for all attendees. Guests are encouraged to drop by with their donations, meet the Library’s board of directors and volunteers, enjoy coƯee, tea, or hot chocolate, and listen to live music performances throughout the day.
“Instruments have a life beyond their first owner,” said Jennie Massey, Chair of The Katie Sullivan Instrument Library. “our Used Instrument Drive is about giving those instruments a chance to inspire a new generation of musicians.”
The library, a registered charity, provides high-quality musical instruments at no cost to K12 students across Newfoundland and Labrador, working directly with school music teachers to identify those facing financial barriers. All donated instruments will be professionally repaired and maintained before being added to the lending collection for student use.
“Many students are eager to join school music programs, but financial barriers can make it impossible,” said Massey. “Your donated instrument can open a door to creativity, confidence, and connection.”
