Community rallies around Labrador Miner after workplace accident
A fundraiser has been launched for a miner involved in a recent serious workplace accident at Voisey’s Bay mine in Labrador last week.
Friends and family of Carter May say he currently in St. John’s receiving medical treatment and will remain there for an undetermined period of time. They say it is clear that he has a long and challenging road to recovery ahead, and hope to help ease the financial burden he will face in years ahead.
“Anyone who has had the privilege of knowing or working alongside Carter knows how dedicated, kind, and hardworking he is. He has always shown up for others, and now we are hoping to come together to support him when he needs it most.”

An investigation is underway following a workplace injury At Vale Base Metals Voisey’s Bay operations.
On Saturday there was a ‘fall of ground’ in the Eastern Deeps Mine at the Voisey’s Bay Operation. An employee was injured in the fall. The employee received emergency care on scene and is currently in hospital in stable condition.
Vale Base Metals has notified regulatory authorities and is investigating the cause of the incident. Underground activities in the immediate area of the incident have been secured and we are working through a safe return to operations.
