Four people injured in Pouch Cove dog attack

Justice, News

Three people were sent to hospital, and another person is injured, following an attack by loose dogs.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received numerous calls from the Pouch Cove Line area after 1 p.m. today describing roaming dogs that had caused injuries to several people. Four people were injured during the attacks, three were sent to hospital, two of whom have serious injuries. Those injured include passersby who attempted to intervene to help their neighbours.

When officers arrived on scene, they worked with the Pouch Cove Volunteer Fire Department and attempted to contain the two loose dogs to a single property. However, the two large breed dogs continued to show aggressive behavior.

Given the threat to human life and risk to public safety, officers were forced to make the difficult decision to use lethal force to subdue the animals.

The RNC is working with the Office of the Chief Veterinary Officer as part of the ongoing investigation. No charges have been laid at this time.
