Weather causes major commercial backlogs for Marine Atlantic
According to Marine Atlantic approximately 400 commercial units are held-up in North Sydney and 300 in Port aux Basques, because of weather delays. In a statement sent to NTV News, Marine Atlantic says “weather has impacted our schedule over past several days resulting in major commercial backlogs in North Sydney and Port aux Basques.”
The Crown Corporation says on the two crossings today they prioritized items such as fresh produce and perishables, propane and other urgent supplies, recognizing the need to get them to Newfoundland as quickly as possible. “We continue to hope for an extended weather window during the week that will allow us to catch up on the backlog that currently exists.”
Marine Atlantic is expecting more weather impacts overnight with potential impacts tomorrow.
