Alleged drug kingpin Ryan Wedding arrested in Mexico City
Former Olympic snowboarder and fugitive Ryan Wedding has been arrested in Mexico City after years on the run.
The FBI confirmed that Wedding, who’s accused of running a multi-billion-dollar drug empire, was taken into custody last night.
Wedding is alleged to have ordered at least four murders in Ontario.
“He went from an Olympic snowboarder to the largest narco-trafficker in modern times. He is a modern day El Chapo. He is a modern day Pablo Escobar. And he thought he could evade justice,” FBI Director Kash Patel said during a news conference today.
Prior to his capture, the 44-year-old was listed on the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives list.
As an athlete, he represented Canada at the 2002 Olympics in the men’s parallel giant slalom event. After the Olympics, he allegedly became a drug trafficker, orchestrating the murders of various witnesses.
