Government investing into municipal infrastructure in Carbonear and Upper Island Cove

News

An investment of more than $1.7 million from provincial, federal and municipal governments was announced today for municipal infrastructure improvements in the towns of Carbonear and Upper Island Cove.

Barry Petten, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, announced the funding today at an event in Carbonear. In the Town of Carbonear, approximately 300 metres of watermain and sewer systems along Garlands Lane are being replaced to provide reliable service to 13 existing homes and to support future residential growth. Approximately 210 metres of aging water lines are being replaced along Dobbin’s Lane, Sharpe’s Lane and Catty’s Lane in Upper Island Cove to ensure continued service for 15 existing housing units. These upgrades mean safer drinking water, better wastewater management, and stronger infrastructure for housing development.

The provincial government says these projects will help these municipalities plan for growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
