Bay St. George RCMP arrests two impaired drivers at separate collisions

Justice, News

Two motorists were arrested for impaired driving by Bay St. George RCMP Monday night after two motor vehicle collisions in Stephenville. Both drivers will appear in court at later dates to answer to charges of impaired operation. In addition, each had their driver’s licence suspended and both vehicles were seized and impounded.

No injuries were reported to police in either collision.

Just after 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 12, police responded to a two-vehicle collision at a gas station on Main Street in Stephenville. Witnesses described the driver of one vehicle as showing signs of intoxication, and he departed the scene without providing a valid driver’s license to the other driver.

Investigators initiated an impaired driving investigation, which led them to home of a 21-year-old man. He failed a breath test on an approved screening device and was arrested for impaired operation. The man was then transported to the detachment, where he provided additional breath samples more than twice the legal limit.

Less than two hours later, at approximately 10:11 p.m., Bay St. George RCMP responded to another two-vehicle collision in a private parking lot along Massachusetts Drive. The driver, a 38-year-old man, was described as displaying signs of intoxication and departed the scene without exchanging information.
