Hundreds still without power as Newfoundland Power continues to repair outages
Over 1,000 are still without power Wednesday morning, as Newfoundland Power continues to bring customers back online from outages caused by Monday’s wind storm. Hurricane force winds battered the island to start the week, causing widespread power outages that affected 24,000 at its peak. Since then, Newfoundland Power has been hard at work to repair all outages, but in a statement last night, say that they expected some areas to remain offline overnight. Many of the areas still affected by power outages have estimated restoration times set for this afternoon. The power company acknowledges that extended outages are difficult and thank the public for their understanding.
