Opposition formally requests answers on five MOU questions

News, Politics

It has been almost one year since the signing of the Churchill Falls memorandum of understanding. Today the Leader of the Official Opposition is calling out the PC Government for what it says is a lack of clarity on the province’s position on the MOU and the plan forward. Liberal leader John Hogan says repeated written letters and questions asked to Premier Wakeham’s team have been met with silence. Today the opposition presented five formal questions to the government.

  1. is Mr. Wakeham choosing the ‘independent’ review panel himself?
  2. What is the status of negotiations with Hydro Quebec, or have they paused?
  3. Has Mr. Wakeham had discussions with other potential partners?
  4. When does Mr. Wakeham propose to have a referendum and who will draft the ballot question?
  5. If Mr. Wakeham cancels the MOU, what is his plan to develop Gull Island to replace the billions of dollars in revenue?

NTV News has contacted Premier Wakeham’s office but they have not yet responded.
