Theft suspect flees in taxi and attempts to disarm officer
At 10:40 p.m. on Thursday night, the RNC responded to a theft in progress at a business in the centre city area of St. John’s.
Prior to police arrival, the suspect had left the area in a taxi. Officers located the taxi and conducted a traffic stop.
The 40-year-old female suspect was located inside the taxi; however, she refused to exit the vehicle and actively resisted arrest. She also attempted to disarm one of the officers.
She was charged with theft under $5,000, attempting to disarm a police officer, resisting arrest and court order breaches. She was held to appear in court.
