Team Canada improves to 3-2 after key win against Alberta; plays later this afternoon

News

It’s early at the Brier, but Brad Gushue and Team Canada already faced a must-win last night. Thankfully, the defending champions delivered, recording a convincing 8-3 win over Alberta’s Kevin Koe. Earlier in the day, Canada suffered a 7-5 loss to the Northwest Territories, a rink skipped by Kevin Koe’s brother, Jamie.
It was the first time he’d ever beaten Team Canada at The Brier.

It’s been a bumpy start for Team Canada, losing a pair of games early. However, Gushue and Co. remain a contender, and will chase history this week. The St. John’s-based team – which includes Mark Nichols, E.J. Harnden and Geoff Walker – is attempting to become just the second team in history to win three-straight. Meanwhile, Andrew Symonds’ Newfoundland and Labrador rink has yet to record a win.
