Police have recovered thousands of dollars in high-end perfumes after a string of drug store thefts across the island last week.
A man and woman from Romania were arrested Oct. 25 on board a Marine Atlantic ferry in Port aux Basques waiting to leave the province. Cristines Bacelan, 29, and Elisabeta Cimpina, 24, have been charged with three counts of theft over $5,000 and two counts of theft under $5,000. That was after five thefts at Shoppers Drug Mart locations last week, one of them in Gander and four in the metro St. John’s area.
RCMP seized a vehicle after the arrest and obtained a search warrant. After searching the vehicle, police recovered a large quantity of various bottles of high-end perfumes.
The two were remanded into custody last week and will appear in court in Gander on Wednesday.
