Company supports woman who defrauded two businesses

The owner of a company who hired a woman charged swindling thousands of dollars from her two previous employers told a judge today that his company was so desperate for workers, he was willing to take the risk, and doesn’t regret it.

Another victim comes forward in case of two men charges with sexual offences against boys

Yet another victim has come forward and more charges have been laid in the case of two St. John’s men suspected of sexual violence against boys.

The offences are said to have happened over a period of 16 years and as recently as last month.

Man sentenced to more than five years for two home invasions

One of two men arrested in connection with two violent home invasions in St. John’s last fall has been given a prison term 5 years, 6 months and 40 days, minus 279 days (just over 9 months) for time already served.

Justin Haynes was sentenced in provincial court this afternoon.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, robbery and break and enter.

Preliminary inquiry begins for alleged C.B.S. shooter Matthew Fowler

The preliminary inquiry began today for a man suspected in two shootings last fall in Conception Bay South, where residents at the time were put on high alert.

Goulds man sentenced to five years behind bars for 2020 fatal drunk driving crash

A Goulds man was sentenced to five and a half years in prison today and banned from driving for the rest of his life. Back in 2020, he crashed his vehicle while driving drunk, killing his girlfriend.
