Firefighters from three departments continue to battle a blaze at the historic Driftwood Inn in Deer Lake.
RCMP say investigators are continuing to contact all people that were in the hotel at the time of the fire. Currently, they believe that everyone has been accounted for. Paramedics treated one woman for minor injuries.
(On Oct. 23, police released new information that human remains had been found inside the burned-out hotel.)
Police were called to the fire around 7 a.m. Officers initially evacuated nearby residences because of a large propane tank on site. But RCMP now say there’s no public safety risk associated with the tank. Officers remain at the scene to provide traffic control.
Police are continuing to ask the public to avoid the area to allow first responders to do their work. NTV’s Don Bradshaw is covering the fire and will have more on the NTV Sunday Evening Newshour.
