Eighteen-year-old woman charged after off-road vehicle crash in North West River

Justice, News

An 18-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in relation to an off-road vehicle crash earlier this month that sent a passenger to hospital with serious injuries.

Shortly before 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, Sheshatshiu RCMP responded to a report of an off-road vehicle crash on airstrip road in North West River. Officers found a side-by-side vehicle off the road and an injured passenger nearby. However, the operator of the vehicle had left by the time police arrived.

On Thursday, Sheshatshiu RCMP arrested the driver, Aicha Malleck. She faces several criminal and traffic offences. They include dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in bodily harm and driving with no insurance.

Malleck was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court in January.

The investigation is ongoing.
