The RNC issued over 270 tickets and charged multiple impaired drivers during the Thanksgiving long weekend. ‘Operation Impact’, which took place October 11-14, is a national public awareness campaign to help prevent collisions, save lives, and reduce injuries on our roads. Through checkpoints and speed enforcement, RNC officers increased enforcement as they worked to detect impaired driving, as well as aggressive driving, distracted driving, and driving without a seat belt.

From Friday to Monday, 271 tickets were issued, primarily for speeding. This included multiple drivers having their license suspended and vehicles seized for travelling 51 km/hr in excess of the speed limit. Four operators were charged with impaired driving, and three operators were issued seven-day suspensions in connection with impairment by alcohol under the Highway Traffic Act. In total, 11 drivers had their license suspended and nine vehicles were seized as a result of high speeds, impairment, and licence/equipment infractions.
