A dramatic crash on the Outer Ring Road on Saturday evening sent the driver of a vehicle to hospital, their injuries not believed to be serious.

At about 8:00 p.m. emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of the highway, between Thorburn Road and Topsail Road. The driver of a sports car had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and go down an embankment. The vehicle traveled several dozen metres, rolling over, and coming to rest among the trees.

Passersby helped the driver from the car, staying with them until first responders arrived. The individual was assisted up the steep embankment to a waiting ambulance. Paramedics took the driver to hospital with unknown injuries, not believed to be serious.

Firefighters wrapped yellow tape around the scene as an indication that the vehicle, left unattended until it could be removed, had already been checked by emergency personnel.
