The driver of a sedan that crashed into the woods on Sunday morning is lucky to have escaped more serious injury.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. emergency crews were called to the intersection of Kenmount Road and Mount Carson Avenue following the single-vehicle crash. According to reports from the scene the driver of a sedan who was approaching the intersection on Mount Carson Avenue traveled through the intersection, striking a traffic light pole. The car then went airborne and crashed into the trees, coming to rest roughly thirty metres from where it left the roadway.

The driver of the car, who was the only occupant, was helped from the vehicle and tended-to by passers-by until emergency crews arrived. They were taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious.

A chainsaw had to be used to clear some branches before the car could be recovered. Roads were damp in heavy fog at the time of the crash, the cause of which is under investigation.
