Two women are facing multiple charges a residential fire last Friday evening in Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Upon arrival at the scene, police officers located the home owner who had injuries from an apparent assault. He was immediately transported to hospital for treatment and has since been released. The Happy Valley-Goose Bay Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames. Fire investigators also attended.

As a result of the ongoing investigation into the matter, Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Labrador General Investigation Section, arrested two women, 34-year-old Margaret Harris and 33-year-old Jennis Judy Mary Harris, both of Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Both appeared in court on Saturday, remained in custody and are set to appear in court again Thursday.

Margaret Harris is charged with the following:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Arson with disregard for human life
  • Arson resulting in property damage
  • Failure to comply with a probation order
  • Failure to comply with a court-ordered condition

Jennis Judy Mary Harris is charged with the following:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Failure to comply with a probation order

The matter remains under investigation.
