Three people have been hospitalized after washouts caused single vehicle crashes on the Buchans Highway. The RCMP say earlier today members of the Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP and emergency first responders were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on the Buchan’s Highway near Buchans Junction. Upon responding to the scene, emergency crews came across a second single vehicle collision with two injured occupants.
Efforts to rescue the two injured occupants were hampered by two separate road wash outs separating responding crews from the collisions. That’s when crews had to call in a Cormorant helicopter to perform a
a medical evacuation. The helicopter was able to air lift the first two injured occupants over the wash out to an awaiting ground ambulance, it then departed that scene and was able to air lift a lone occupant from the collision near Buchan’s Junction to hospital in Gander.
The cause of both collisions in still under investigation.
Police continue to warn about numerous road washouts in several communities throughout the Province. Motorists are advised to stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary and to report any new wash outs to the Department of Transportation.
