An 18-year-old male in Corner Brook is facing criminal charges for allegedly issuing a threat against a school in that community.
The teenager was charged after the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary received a complaint from school administrators on Monday morning indicating someone had uttered a threat against the school.
An RNC spokesperson says, despite rumours in the community last week surrounding a threat against Corner Brook High School, the arrest today is not connected with that incident.
After charging the 18-year-old with uttering threats, the RNC spokesperson says there is no reason to believe a threat to public safety exists at any school in the community.
The accused appeared at provincial court in Corner Brook this afternoon, at which time his case was set over to a later date.
