Well, he’s gone from peeling potatoes as a kid to being awarded the top chef in Canada.

Ross Larkin of St. John’s was named the winner on last night’s program. Larkin had no formal culinary training but now works as the chef de cuisine at Raymonds, regarded by many as one of the top restaurants in Canada. He admits the Top Chef Canada experience took him out of his comfort zone, with challenges creating everything from fried chicken to desserts. Larkin was encouraged to apply to the show by his wife, who’s a pastry chef.

His mentor, world famous and local chef Jeremy Charles, said he couldn’t be more proud. Larkin says his on-the-job training throughout his life in a family kitchen, and then Raymonds, is what got him here.
