Rescue personnel were called to Paddy’s Pond on the Trans-Canada Highway just outside of St. John’s around 7 p.m. Sunday night to a report of a plane crash.

Officials on the scene say a small home-built aircraft crashed on an island on Paddy’s Pond. When rescue personnel arrived on the scene the pilot had already made it to shore, near the Fire Warren Station. Fewer Ambulance, Eastern Health, St. John’s Regional Fire Department, the RNC and officials from St. John’s Airport were all on the scene.

A firefighter used a small boat to reach the crash site and ensured there were no other injuries and no environmental concerns. The scene has now been turned over to the RNC.
