‘Maudie’ took home seven Canadian Screen Awards Sunday night, including Best Picture, Best Direction for Aisling Walsh, and Best Original Screenplay for Sherry White.

“Maudie’ is a film about Nova Scotia folk artist Maud Lewis, but was written by Newfoundland and Labrador writer Sherry White, and filmed in this province. Ethan Hawke won for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Maud’s husband, and Oscar Nominee Sally Hawkins took home the trophy for Best Actress.

‘Maudie’ was a co-production between Ireland and Canada, and was filmed in Eastern Newfoundland in 2015.
