Police have charged a 33-year-old man from the Bay St. George area with attempted murder.

The RCMP responded to a 911 call at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday. The suspect fled when police arrived. He was later taken into custody in the area of Montana Drive in Stephenville.

A woman was treated in hospital and later released.

The man has also been charged with overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence, assault, break and enter, mischief, theft and uttering threats. He was scheduled to appear in Stephenville provincial court on Monday.

Police say the incident is not believed to be random as the individuals are known to each other. The investigation is ongoing.
