There was a major fire in St. John’s this morning that could have a major impact on the province’s food sharing association.
Firefighters responded to a call this morning of a fire at a building on Topsail Road – a structure which houses the community food sharing association and food bank. It’s the largest food bank in the entire province. Firefighters managed to get the blaze under control within a half hour of the call, although they remain on the scene at this hour to deal with hot spots.
According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, all four lanes of Topsail Road were closed off in the area of 1,149 Topsail Road, near Honda One, while emergency responders worked the
scene. Surrounding business were also evacuated this morning.
The Food Sharing Association provides product for the entire province, but the extent of damage and loss is unknown.
