The province’s health authorities are slimming down. The four regional boards are collectively cutting the equivalent of 961 full-time positions and introducing other efficiencies to save $85 million a year.
Eastern Health has already eliminated 230 positions toward its target of 550 plus another 69 managers, Central Health is cutting 76, Western Health will cut 147, and Labrador-Grenfell Health is cutting 119. The cuts will all happen through a combination of attrition and reducing non-core hours.
Health Minister Susan Sullivan promises there will be no layoffs and patient service won’t be affected, but the opposition parties aren’t so sure. NTV’s Michael Connors reports.
