361º World Men's Curling Championship 2018, Orleans Arena, Las Vegas, United States

It was a tough loss for Team Canada at the world curling championships last night, but the St. John’s-based rink has still managed to clinch a playoff spot.

It was the second loss of the tournament for Brad Gushue, Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant and Geoff Walker, who fell to the hometown favorites and Olympic champions, Team USA in a nail-bitter 6-5. Team Gushue, the defending world champions, beat China earlier Thursday 7-4 and was on a seven win streak.

But the key match-up goes today where the Gushue rink will face Sweden before finishing up round-robin play with the evening match against Germany.

The medal games are scheduled for Sunday in Las Vegas.
