PC leadership candidate Ches Crosbie is calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to immediately reverse his government’s decision to reallocate portion of the Grand Bank surf clam quota, and to replace Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Dominic LeBlanc.

“I am disturbed to hear additional details come to light surrounding the job-killing reallocation of portion of the Grand Bank surf clam quota,” says Crosbie

Crosbie refers to comments made by provincial Fisheries Minister Gerry Byrne, who stated there was no evidence that Indigenous groups from Newfoundland and Labrador signed on to the proposal before it was submitted. Crosbie says it contradicts the information publicly stated by the federal minister while announcing the reallocation.

“If these allegations by Minister Byrne are correct, the quota decision violates the terms of the bid,” adds Crosbie.
