The Clarenville Caribous are the province’s top hockey team.
The Caribous defeated the St. John’s Caps 6-1 Saturday night to win the prestigious Herder Memorial Trophy at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay.
The Caribous, who won their fourth Herder title in the last decade, swept the best-of-seven final. It was an historic win for the Caribous as head coach Rebecca Russell became the first female coach to lead a senior championship team to the title.
The win also earns Clarenville the right to advance to next year’s Allan Cup, where they’ll face the best in the country for the national title.
