The battle for senior hockey’s top prize continues this weekend as the series shifts to Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay.
The Clarenville Caribous – who have won three Herder Memorial titles over the past decade – have a 2-0 series lead after sweeping a homestand over the St. John’s Caps last weekend. The Caribous won the series opener 4-3 and followed up with a 5-2 victory in Game 2.
Game 3 in the series goes 7:30 tonight at Jack Byrne with Game 4 scheduled for Saturday night.
The Caribous won Herder titles in 2009, 2010 and 2012, while St. John’s teams have won the Herder 19 times since the trophy was put up for grabs by the Herder family in 1935. However, St. John’s hasn’t won the title since 1990.
