An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause of death of a 27-year-old inmate at the Correctional Centre for Women in Clarenville over the weekend.
Monday, the Department of Justice were tight-lipped about the inmate death. However, Staff Sargeant Larry Turner told NTV News that preliminary findings suggest the woman may have choked on a piece of food, which later lead to hear death.
RCMP were called in to investigate after the woman was taken to G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital during an emergency incident that took place Friday afternoon. The woman was pronounced dead at 3:30 on Saturday morning. Police say a choking incident is only a preliminary finding with an autopsy scheduled for today.
